Simple, lesser-known ways to recharge your connection with the earth
Hi Nature Enthusiast,
For hustling Nature lovers like you, life can feel like a constant tug-of-war. You long to reconnect with the earth. But life happens. You often find yourself buried under a mountain of responsibilities.
And suddenly it’s evening — again. And again you were not on this walk that you had been planning to take so much…
🏡 I’ve regained my health after a heart attack. Nature’s wisdom and some smart Lifestyle Changes brought back success in my Life & Business. If you want to learn about my proven steps subscribe to the FARMISH Mindset newsletter. 🏡
Here’s the good news. Rediscovering your bond with Nature doesn’t require hours of free time. Nor do you need a cabin in the woods.
The simplest practices can bring a surprising peace. They fit into your busy schedule.
Take it from me: Years ago, I thought I was doing enough to nurture my connection with Nature. But when I committed to daily walks of up to an hour, my world shifted. Those moments became my time to breathe (literally) and my brainstorming space. Ever since 80% of my best ideas now come while I’m walking outdoors.
You can do this too!
Let’s dive into some lesser-known practices that busy Nature lovers like you can easily incorporate into your life.
Rethink Your Routine
Nature doesn’t have to be a weekend thing — it can be woven into your everyday life. Consider this, for example. What if your coffee break became a 10-minute outdoor journaling session instead?
Or how about taking your next phone call while pacing around a park?
Errands, too, offer surprising opportunities. Instead of dashing to the nearest grocery store, could you walk or bike there?
Bonus: you’ll raise your fitness level while enjoying the outdoors.
Think of these small tweaks as “nature hacks” for your daily grind.
Practice “Micro-Dosing” Nature
Not every connection with Nature requires an hour-long adventure. Sometimes, the tiniest moments can be the most impactful.
Watch the sunrise or sunset for just five minutes. Absorb the sunlight, while your thoughts wander.
Why not grow a few low-maintenance plants on your windowsill? It doesn't have to be highly sensitive and expensive orchids.
Pause to listen to birdsong outside on your balcony or terrace. These natural frequencies resonate harmoniously with your body.
Maybe there is a petting zoo nearby where you live? Visit it. Touch the animals. Observe them. Enjoy their presence and their vibe. (Don't go near the llamas. They can sense when you're stressed and will spit at you.) 😎
These brief encounters will remind you of Nature’s magic. They help you feel connected, even on your busiest, shitiest days. Over time, they will accumulate into a deeper sense of calm and joy.
You’ll start to miss them.
Explore “Slow Nature” Activities
In a world obsessed with speed, there is something radical about slowing down. Nature rewards those who linger. Less mainstream practices like forest bathing or sky gazing are perfect for this.
Forest bathing isn’t about hiking or exercising. It’s about immersing yourself in the sights, sounds, and smells of the forest. Just 20 minutes can help lower stress levels. You don’t need the Rocky Mountains for this. Even a small park nearby can do the job.
Sky gazing, meanwhile, is a gentle reminder to let your mind wander. Lie on the grass, watch the colors of the sky and the clouds. They morph into fantastical shapes and color patterns. You’ll feel the weight of the day lift off your shoulders.
Think I exaggerate? Try it and you’ll see.
Commit to Regular “Unplugged” Walks
For me, the daily walks have been my ultimate game-changer. But the key is leaving the phone behind.
You’re not surprised, aren’t you?
Without distractions, my mind has the space to wander, process, and create. I’ve come to cherish these moments as much for their mental clarity as for the fresh air and sunshine.
And my dogs enjoy them too. :-)
If a long walk sounds daunting, start small: a 10-minute stroll around the block can do wonders. Gradually, you’ll crave those longer walks and the clarity they bring.
Small Steps, Big Rewards
Reconnecting with Nature doesn’t have to mean uprooting your life. Start with one of these practices today and notice the shift it brings to your mood, focus, and creativity.

i'm reading this as I'm sitting out by a fire that I built when I first moved out on the property almost 10 years ago. Living in the country with no street lights and just one light for the pasture you can see the stars and it's just gorgeous. So calming and so relaxing.
And even though I have my phone in my hand reading your article I still retain that sense of calm and peace and being outside with nature, and by the way, I had three or four look like four maybe baby fonds eating in the back of the pasture earlier when I had lit the fire.
Just reiterating your article and what it means just to get away even if it's just for a few moments or if it's for hours either way, it's beneficial to our health.
Thank you so much for your kind and thoughtful comments. It's always a pleasure to read them.
